Six players, one from each sport, exemplify skill and teamwork

The DCTC Athletic department features six programs. Women and men’s soccer compete as independents at the NJCAA Division I level. Cam Stoltz is head coach of both teams. In 2011, men’s soccer advanced to the semifinals of the NJCAA DI Region 11 Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, losing to Iowa Western Community College, ranked fourth in the nation, 1–6. The men finished the season 11–8–0.

Blue Knights SoccerWomen’s soccer also advanced to the semis and also lost to IWCC, ranked fifth in the nation, by a score of 1–6. The women posted a season record of 6–11–2. Home games are played at the Ames Soccer Complex on the college’s Rosemount campus.

Baseball and fastpitch softball compete as independents at the NJCAA DIII  level with plans to move up to DII in spring 2013. A new ballpark for baseball is under construction on the Rosemount campus with hopes that play will begin spring 2012. Randy Briesacher serves as head coach.

Fastpitch is slated to practice and play on city of Rosemount fields under construction on land adjacent to the Ames Soccer Complex. Tom Cross serves as head coach.

Blue Knights VolleyballWomen’s volleyball, which competes as an independent at the DII level, just completed the team’s inaugural season, posting a respectable 13–16–0 record, including a late October appearance in the NJCAA Region 13 Tournament in Bottineau, N.D.  Alyssa Perkarna, freshman middle blocker, was named to the All-Tournament Team. Freshman outside hitter, Bailey Anderson (see below), was named to the NJCAA Region 13 All-Region Team. Ben Stroud serves as head coach. Home games are played at the High Performance Center in Eagan, Minn.

Competing as an independent at the NJCAA DII level, men’s basketball played the first game of the team’s inaugural season Nov. 11, 2011, at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa. The Knights posted a historic win for the program, beating the Trojans 89–78. The next day, also in Mason City, DCTC got the program’s second win, downing the Ellsworth Community College Panthers 70–61.

Blue Knights Basketball“We made history,” said Head Coach Jay Pivec, a member of the NJCAA Hall of Fame. “DCTC’s brand-new basketball program got its first two wins. The victories are significant not only because this is our first year, but also because our opponents have very good teams. Very few teams win back to back versus NIACC and Ellsworth. And both games were on the road.”

The team has a 30-game schedule. Ron Gates, Coach Piv’s assistant for two decades, serves as associate head coach. Home games are played at the Salvation Army Community Center in St. Paul. The team practices at the High Performance Academy in Eagan.
